PROJECT PAGE: Observation Points

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), over 7,000 people died while they were trying to migrate either through sea routes or deserts in 2016. Stars in the night sky would have shone above the people and they might have looked up at the stars as their hopes for their future. In the exhibition Nomads the illuminated balloons as a symbol of stars also mean lost migrants’ hopes as well as the repose of their souls. Nozomi Watanabe installed 16 illuminated meteorological balloons, referring to the summer star chart in Czech Republic. In the event people could discover the balloons that correspond to stars in the night sky and use them as observation points for stargazing.
